Headache & Migraine Relief in Frisco, TX

A large share of chronic headaches originate in the neck, which is why they keep coming back no matter what you take for them.

If you are taking something for a headache more than a couple of times a week, you have moved past treating an occasional problem and into managing a chronic one. Worse, frequent use of pain medication can itself produce rebound headaches, creating a cycle that is genuinely hard to break from the inside.

The useful question is not which pill works better. It is where the headache is coming from.

Symptoms we hear about

  • Pain starting at the base of the skull and wrapping forward
  • Headache concentrated behind one eye or on one side
  • Band-like pressure around the whole head
  • Headaches triggered or worsened by neck movement or posture
  • Associated neck stiffness and upper trap tension
  • Light or sound sensitivity, nausea, or visual aura with migraine

What usually causes it

  • Upper cervical joint dysfunction (cervicogenic headache)
  • Forward head posture and sustained desk positions
  • Muscle tension in the suboccipitals and upper traps
  • Previous whiplash or head injury
  • TMJ dysfunction and jaw clenching
  • Stress, poor sleep, dehydration, and dietary triggers

The neck-to-head connection is not vague

There is a specific anatomical reason neck problems produce head pain. Sensory fibers from the upper three cervical nerves converge with the trigeminal nerve, the nerve that handles sensation for your face and head, in a structure called the trigeminocervical nucleus. Your brain cannot always tell which input is which.

The practical consequence: irritation in the upper cervical joints gets interpreted as pain in the head. Address the cervical dysfunction and a large fraction of chronic headaches simply stop.

What we do about it

We examine the upper cervical spine specifically, assess your cervical curve, and evaluate the suboccipital muscles, the small deep muscles at the base of the skull that are chronically overworked in anyone with forward head posture.

Treatment typically combines precise upper cervical adjustments, our muscle protocol on the suboccipitals and upper traps, MLS laser to reduce local inflammation, and deep neck flexor retraining to fix the posture driving all of it.

Migraines are different, and we say so

True migraine is a neurological condition with a vascular and neurochemical component, not simply a bad tension headache. We are not going to claim chiropractic cures migraines.

What we do see clinically is that many migraine sufferers also have significant cervical dysfunction, and that treating it frequently reduces frequency and intensity, sometimes substantially. We track your headache frequency honestly and if we are not moving the needle, we will tell you and coordinate with your physician or neurologist.

How we treat headaches & migraines in Frisco

Your plan is built from your exam findings, not from a template. These are the tools we most often combine for this condition.

Headaches & Migraines: common questions

How many visits before my headaches improve?

Cervicogenic headaches frequently respond quickly. Many patients report a noticeable drop in frequency within two to three weeks. Long-standing patterns with significant postural change take longer because the structure has to change too.

Can chiropractic cure migraines?

We will not claim that. Migraine has neurological and vascular components beyond joint mechanics. What we consistently see is reduced frequency and intensity in migraine patients who also have cervical dysfunction, and that is a meaningful outcome worth pursuing.

What if my headaches are from stress?

Stress rarely causes headaches directly. It causes sustained muscle tension in the neck and shoulders, and that tension causes the headache. Treating the physical result while you work on the source is entirely legitimate and often the faster path to relief.

Could my headaches be coming from my jaw?

Frequently, yes. TMJ dysfunction and clenching produce temporal and behind-the-eye headaches, and jaw and upper cervical mechanics are closely linked. We assess both, and we will refer you to a dentist experienced in TMJ if that turns out to be the primary driver.
